Research proves play based therapy changes brains!

Researchers compared brain scans before and after a year of play based therapy with their autistic children.  The Amygdala (the part of the brain that processes emotions such as fear and anxiety) decreased by nearly half!  And the parts of the brain that tune into social cues was now super active.   After playing with their child the "social brain woke up"!   See the video for yourself here (I also have the link on my facebook page)

This is awesome!  I always knew the brain was dynamic and adaptable, but now we can see the true power that love and play have on our beautiful special children.  (This research is done on Floortime, but the principles of play in the Son-Rise Program are very similar, my personal opinion is that the Son-Rise Program is even more powerful.  I'd wager that there would be even more significant results should they study brains of children using the Son-Rise Program )  And it should also be noted that the Son-Rise program can change your life no matter how much you implement it. However you will have more dramatic results the more you and your team are in the playroom with your child.  The family shown in the video made a commitment of 20 hours a week. And what is amazing, is they did it all themselves after their initial training!

If you ever need help running or starting your own play based program for your autistic child, please contact me!
Best wishes,
Katrina
